Shanghai Daily reports:
“China’s income has surpassed Japan’s in some quarters since 2006 and the two, our top two markets in Asia, are close (on revenue),” Tsoi said in an interview during BEA World 2007 in Shanghai.
The combined revenue of China and Japan is more than half of BEA Asia’s income and China has become the company’s fastest-growth regional market for years, according to Tsoi.
BEA is making its money from the three sectors of the Chinese economy that have been the most eager to embrace technology: telecoms, finance, and the government. According to the article, BEA “has increased investment in China including doubling staff numbers in the past three years, penetrated second-tier cities and launched new products with Web2.0 and SOA (service-oriented architecture) features”.
In short, BEA targeted the most lucrative market segments, invested in staff and resources, and expanded it’s distribution network. No wonder they’re doing well here.
Oracle made an unsolicited offer to buy BEA in October, but the deal has stalled.
