Digitimes reports:
Due to China government plans to start restricting transportation in Beijing in August this year to ease traffic during the Olympic games, plus consumers are expected to put most of their attention on the event resulting in a drop in the effectiveness of advertising, first-tier motherboard makers have decided to focus their sales activities during July and September, according to a Chinese-language Apply Daily report.
Beijing and northern China occupy around 25-30% of China’s total motherboard sales. Around 10-15% of Asustek Computer and Gigabyte Technology’s total sales come from China, while for Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) the proportion is 15-20%, according to the paper.
Impacted by Internet cafe license restrictions, heavy snows, earthquakes and floods, the motherboard DIY market in China is expected to only reach 14-15 million units this year, noted the paper.
I guess the expectation is that everyone will be glued to their TV sets watching the Olympics rather than actually doing anything.
All Roads Lead to China has great coverage of the impact of the Olympics on business in Northern China.
