Pacific Epoch reports:

Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) China released a Chinese version of the “Google Pack” free software bundle on August 15, reports DoNews. The Chinese version of the downloadable bundle includes China-specific offerings including Google and Kingsoft’s (3888.HK) co-branded version of translation software PowerWord, Google’s Chinese pinyin input software, Rising’s anti-virus software and Google’s toolbar for Internet Explorer. Software also offered in other versions of Google Pack include Firefox with the Google toolbar, Adobe Reader, Spyware Doctor’s “Starter Edition”, StarSuite, and Google’s Picasa. Interestingly, and perhaps due to concerns over regulations of online mapping services in China, the Chinese software pack does not include Google Earth.

It’s cool that they threw in Rising AV. As far as I can tell it’s free as the rest of the stuff. However, from this post over at the suggestions thread for googlepack on google groups, Rising was rated as the worst (it only caught 32% of the test viruses).

The site, a security BBS named Kafan, is a Chinese-language user support forum for Agnitum’s Outpost personal firewall software.

Food for thought for Google, a bit of a black eye for Rising, and what appears to be an active fan base for Outpost in China.

It can be found here.
